Shooting for gold

I've always loved sport, so I knew I wanted to study in the field, and VU was the best place for me to do that.

Alice Sweeting
Bachelor of Exercise Science/Sport and Recreation Management (Honours), Doctor of Philosophy

Now working as a research fellow for the Western Bulldogs, Alice Sweeting’s PhD research is helping to give the Australian netball team the edge.

I knew VU was the best place for me; with its partnerships with elite sporting organisations, world-class sport facilities and practical placements.

"I applied to VU through the Portfolio Partnership Program (now called VU guaranteed), which recognised the volunteer work I had done in my community in addition to my ATAR score.

During my undergraduate degree, I did my cadetship with the Western Bulldogs, and a work placement with Netball Australia.

I undertook my PhD research in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Sport and Netball Australia. It used a new tracking system to capture the movement of elite athletes during matches, giving our Australian netball team the edge.

I am now a research fellow in sport science with the Western Bulldogs and the Institute for Health and Sport. My role involves supporting the senior sport scientist and high performance staff at the Western Bulldogs in research and the daily training environment."
