A casual conversation with a fellow student was the catalyst that led Indian-born expat Siddeq Mohammed to his Australian profession.

Siddeq, a graduate of Victoria University’s (VU) Master of Enterprise Resource Planning, says it was a case of being “in the right place at the right time” when he was introduced to his future employer, My Pathway, where he works as a business process analyst.

“I met a fellow student in a project management workshop at VU and had a brief discussion about my skills and experience with him,” Siddeq, who originates from a small town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, on the Bay of Bengal, recalls.

“Later, we had a few professional meetings regarding a SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation project which was on cards in his organisation. Fortunately, they needed someone who could work on the project with a similar set of skills which I possess.

“Now, three years down the line, I'm still working at My Pathway in a full-time position as business process analyst.

“It was my previous experience that landed me the job; however, VU is the main reason for getting into My Pathway – I was at right place and right time.”

As a SAP-certified associate in the SAP Analytics Cloud data visualisation tool – which was introduced to him at VU – Siddeq says his role focuses on analytics and business intelligence.

Everything I learnt at VU I’ve directly applied at my workplace. It was my learning assignments and culture of working in groups at VU that helped me to find the job.

“I especially enjoyed the collaborative work of people coming together to brainstorm, generate new ideas, plan for solutions, and innovate new ways to solve real-world business problems.”

In his endorsement of VU to prospective international students, Siddeq says the University’s strong industry links and networking forums are second to none.

“I would recommend ERP courses at VU as they are packed with industry-driven content, taught by domain leaders and highly experienced professors using latest SAP ERP and analytics technologies.

“Particularly at VU, professors invite industry experts to share their insights about latest technologies and the future job market, which in turn helped me focus on professional learning and development.”
