How Samantha's making her mark on the beauty industry

I chose to study at VU Polytechnic because of its strong industry connections and the superb facilities, including the student-run hairdressing and beauty salon and dermal therapy salon.

Samantha Page's passion for hair, make-up and beauty has translated into a successful career, and her own business.

"Ever since I received my first toy make-up kit as a five year old, I knew it was something I wanted to be involved in. Right through school I was the kid that experimented with hair and make-up and would practise on anyone who’d let me!

I love how creative you can be with make-up and hair; so when I finished my VCE in 2016, a career in the beauty industry was a natural choice for me. I enrolled in the Diploma of Screen and Media (no longer offered) in 2017 where you learn to create specialised make-up for film, TV, theatre and photography.

I’m currently completing my Certificate III in Hairdressing SHB30416 and work part-time in a hairdressing studio on weekends as part of my apprenticeship. I’ve also set up my own beauty business and, in between that, I’ve had some great opportunities to create specialised make-up for beauty expos, photo shoots and TV and theatre productions. I am also currently nominated for Student of the Year in the 2019 HBIA Awards, representing VU in the Hair and Makeup category.

I chose to study at VU Polytechnic because of its strong industry connections and the superb facilities, including the student-run hairdressing and beauty salon and dermal therapy salon. The salons are open to the public so you can practise your skills while you learn to work with real clients.

Studying at VU Polytechnic didn't just teach me the technical skills I needed; the support and encouragement I received from the staff also helped me to have the confidence to set up my own business.

I highly recommend VU Polytechnic to anyone who wants to pursue their dream career."
