Bachelor of Music 2014 Valedictorian, Sharon Herzog, explored her passion for music and found true success with the support of Victoria University’s flexible learning opportunities and welcoming atmosphere.
"I started my family at a young age and after my sixth child was born, I decided it was time to fulfil my lifelong dream of becoming a music teacher. I chose Victoria University because I felt I needed to go to a place that was understanding and where I would be a person rather than a number. I also loved the Bachelor of Music course structure – I was introduced to many new practical skills such as ensemble performance and also gained an understanding of the music industry.
I hadn’t accounted for being so much older than my fellow students and I hadn’t foreseen how difficult it would be to find the time to practise, rehearse and study, but the family atmosphere, supportive staff and dedicated student body at VU made me feel I was in the right place.
I went from a very shy solo performer to a confident ensemble performer and gained the confidence to apply for my current job as Music and Movement teacher at an Early Learning Centre, in which I was successful. It is something I never would have been able to achieve without my experiences at VU.
I graduated as valedictorian and graduation day was amazing. I thank VU for its support throughout my journey."
