Our Year 11 (Uni-Link) and Year 12 (Uni-Study) study opportunities provide students with a greater understanding of university and their options for the future, easing their transition to tertiary study later.

The program is run collaboratively with partner secondary schools in Melbourne’s west.

The EUP Year 12 program will not be offered in 2018. It is envisaged the program will recommence in 2019.

Partner schools

Our partner secondary schools are:

  • Essendon Keilor College
  • Footscray City College
  • Hoppers Crossing Secondary College
  • Manor Lakes College
  • Mt Alexander SC
  • Point Cook Senior College
  • St Joseph's Flexible Learning Centre
  • Victoria University Secondary College

Places for individual students from non-partner schools

While this is largely a collaborative program with our partner schools, there are a small number of discretionary positions for individual Year 12 students who are:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, or
  • living in rural/remote areas.

For more information, please email earlyunipathways@vu.edu.au with the subject line 'Discretionary Places [Year]'; for example: 'Discretionary Places 2018'.

Our Year 11 Student Experience Program (Uni-Link) provides students with a positive first experience of university as a ten-week program conducted on-site at our Footscray Park or St Albans campuses during school term 3.

Uni-Link offers participating students the opportunity to:

  • become a university student while still at school
  • be introduced to lectures, tutorials, fieldwork, library networks, peer mentors and other university resources (such as online learning) to support and promote their development as independent learners
  • develop academic reading, writing and presentation skills
  • be involved in a challenging and enjoyable learning experience
  • gain a university non-award unit qualification
  • enjoy student access to university facilities and activities (e.g. libraries, computer labs, online support materials, clubs, societies)
  • better understand future university options.

While at Victoria University, students will be introduced to university options to pursue in Year 12 (Uni-Study) and learning opportunities for the future.

Although this experience is situated at Victoria University, the skills and familiarity with university learning and facilities will serve as strong preparation for pursuing university options at any institution.

Year 12 Student VCE Program (Uni-Study)

Please note the EUP Year 12 program will not be offered in 2018. It is envisaged the program will recommence in 2019.

Our Year 12 EUP Student VCE Program (Uni-Study) offers students the opportunity to undertake two first-year university units that will count as one of their 5th or 6th VCE subjects (unit 3 & 4 sequence) and counted in their ATAR.

Uni-Study benefits participating students in a number of ways, including:

  • guaranteed entry into specified VU courses (for students who successfully complete their VCE and pass their university units; also meeting any course prerequisites)
  • Advanced Standing (2 units credit) towards an undergraduate qualification at VU (usually transferable to a range of universities)
  • no tuition fees and no HECS debt (for studies undertaken as part of this program)
  • contribution to the calculation of the ATAR via an increment as a fifth or sixth VCE study*
  • provision of academic challenges in a broader range of studies in Year 12
  • eligibility to apply for an EUP scholarship if you continue on at VU
  • familiarisation with university life in preparation for future study choices.

*ATAR increment

Our team is on-hand to advise and support EUP students, alongside our academic support service, university peer mentors and College staff, so that students can make the most of their time at VU.

Benefit of EUP Units as VCE Units 3 and 4

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) website outlines the requirements for Higher Education study contributing to the student's ATAR as a fifth or sixth study via an increment.

University units that count as VCE units 3 & 4 fall into two categories – either 'Advanced Standing‘ or ‘Extension’ study.

Advanced Standing study:

  • is equivalent in content and assessment to one or more current first-year studies and constitutes 20-25 per cent of a full-time first year course
  • is not available in any VCE studies
  • provides students with a defined pathway into a tertiary program
  • will normally allow the student, upon successful completion, to proceed to second-year study in that discipline as part of a Bachelor degree.

Extension study:

  • is equivalent in content and assessment to one or more current first-year studies and constitutes 20-25 per cent of a full-time first-year course, and does not duplicate a VCE study
  • is of a level for high achieving students and a clear extension on the identified Year 12 study, offering depth and breadth commensurate in workload with an additional VCE subject
  • will normally allow the student, upon successful completion, to proceed to second-year study in that discipline as part of a Bachelor degree.
