Graduate research scholarships

Victoria University's world-leading researchers are available to supervise successful graduate research scholarship applicants. We will help you become a research-qualified professional.

About research scholarships

The purpose of these scholarships is to support high-quality research by assisting graduate researchers, also called Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates, with excellent academic qualifications who wish to participate in postgraduate research programs.

A scholarship provides financial assistance during your study. Some scholarships provide a stipend that covers tuition fees and living allowances, while others provide only partial funding.

All scholarship applicants must meet VU's academic entry requirements for graduate research, in addition to any eligibility requirements for their scholarship.

We offer scholarships for tuition fees and a living allowance (stipend) to assist graduate research students with the costs of their study.

Scholarships are awarded competitively and selection is based on academic merit with preference given to students undertaking projects in:

  • one of our areas of research priority
  • areas relevant to the research being undertaken in our research institutes and centres
  • projects supported by industry partners or part of externally funded research programs
  • Moondani Balluk research scholarships, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and research using the Foley Collection.
