You can find a number of hospitals and general practitioners across Melbourne.
Unless it's an emergency, it is a good idea to call first and make an appointment. It is also worth asking the health practitioner if they offer a discount to students.
Always take your VU student ID card and your Medicare card or OSHC card to your appointment.

Medicare provides payments and services that can help when you, or someone you provide care for, use health care services or buy medicines.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students
As an international student, it is a condition of your student visa that you have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of your stay in Australia.
OSHC gives you access to out-of-hospital and in-hospital medical services to help you maintain your health.
Coronavirus (COVID-19)
VU has developed detailed COVID-19 information for students and staff to help address uncertainty.
It is important to follow Government advice and practise good hygiene (such as washing your hands regularly, keeping your distance from other people and isolating at home if you have symptoms) to reduce your risks of becoming unwell and keep those around you safe.
Vaccination
VU encourages you to get vaccinated if you are able to. COVID-19 vaccines are free and information about eligibility is on the official Victorian Government coronavirus website.
To get vaccinated:
- find a vaccination centre near you
- book an appointment online or by calling the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398 (press 0 for an interpreter)
- go to your appointment and take a face mask and your Medicare card or individual health care identifier number (if you are an international student). You may also need to show photo identification (e.g. a passport) and any emails about your vaccination appointment.
COVID-19 vaccines and other health services are also available at pharmacies.
