Victoria University (VU) offers practical skills assessments for licensed trades. We can assess the skills you have gained overseas in the electrical or plumbing trades.

Our assessment team will be conducting practical assessments in the following licensed occupations:

  • Electrician – General (ANZSCO code: 341111)

  • Electrician – Special Class (ANZSCO code: 341112)

  • Plumber – General (ANZSCO code: 334111).

Eligibility criteria

The following critical skills must be met before an application will be accepted for skills assessment in the licensed trades:

  • Is there sufficient documentary evidence to support 80% of the critical skills?
  • Is there sufficient documentary evidence (informal training or formal qualifications) to support the equivalent of a four-year full time apprenticeship?
  • Is there sufficient documentary evidence to support one-year post trade training employment?
  • Have you completed full-time employment based on the followings standards:
    1. no formal training – six years’ work experience
    2. formal training – four years’ work experience

TRA has defined ‘formal training’ as training that aligns with the national training standards in the applicant’s country of training.

  • You must also have worked for at least 12 months in full-time paid employment in the three (3) years prior to lodging your application. Evidence of part-time employment can be counted towards the employment requirement, on a pro-rata basis
  • Can the technical assessment be conducted in English without assistance?
  • Electricians only: has the applicant provided independent third party evidence (qualifications/employment evidence) to meet the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council's key duties expected of an Installation Electrician?

If you cannot provide evidence to meet these criteria your application will not be eligible for assessment.
