VU grants & funding schemes

We have a range of central internal grants and funding schemes to support research projects and researcher development.

Before selecting a scheme we recommend that you view the process for applying for grants and funding at VU.

New Internal Research Grants Programme

Commencing on or before 30 June, the new Internal Grant Programme, replacing the current 12 individual schemes, aims to:

  • increase external research income
  • increase high quality (externally validated) research activities
  • increase research capacity
  • build the University research reputation
  • contribute to our research focus areas
  • build collaborations.

Funding will be provided to support:

  • individual research projects and programmes (including fellowships)
  • research programmes conducted at an individual or organisational level (including fellowships)
  • institutional infrastructure.

Funding will be available to support work for a period of 1-3 years, with the size of the grant dependant on the experience of the first named investigator.

The following schemes will continue unchanged:

  • VU Bruce McGuinness Indigenous Research Fellowship
  • Indigenous Central Research Grants Scheme (ICRGS)
  • Parental Leave Fund.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the new programme.

Researcher Support Fund

The Researcher Support Fund is an internal grant distributed annually to Colleges, Research Centres and Institutes to support research activity.

The grant is calculated on the basis of research performance and is intended to support the achievement of University, College, Research Centre and Institute research goals and targets with a focus on:

  • supporting staff to produce research outputs and generate research income
  • the development of a critical mass of research within Centres and Institutes.

The grant includes an allocation to be managed at the College level as well as individual staff allocations for those who exceed performance thresholds.

Further details are available from the scheme guidelines.
