Law firms to host Jiangsu lawyers

We are seeking expressions of interest from law firms to host a Jiangsu Bar Association delegate to promote international knowledge exchange.
Thursday 22 February 2018

A delegation of experienced lawyers from the Jiangsu Bar Association are arriving in Victoria in April. The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre is seeking expressions of interest from law firms to host a delegate to promote international knowledge exchange.

The delegation of 24 experienced mid-career lawyers from Victoria’s sister state, Jiangsu province, have excellent English language and a Chinese client base that requires them to better understand the Australian legal system. The SZCC provides six weeks of intensive classroom training, with delegates matched to an appropriate law firm for a two week work placement.

While with us, delegates also visit key legal, business and government institutions, and make the most of exploring tourist offerings in Victoria and Australia.

In 2017, 13 law firms hosted our Chinese delegates for their placements. Hosts ranged from:

  • top-tier multinational firms including Ashurst and Herbert Smith Freehills
  • mid-sized firms like Logie-Smith Lanyon
  • boutique practices such as Batten Sacks.

Both hosts and delegates gained enormously from the experience, and strong ongoing business and personal connections were formed.

Hosting opportunities

If your law firm is looking to develop its China practice and promote international knowledge exchange, please consider hosting one or two delegates in 2018.
