Youth Community Gateways has been launched as part of Victoria University's (VU) Youth Strategy. It will provide programs and services to attract and engage young people in education.
It operates out of the Visy Cares Hub in Sunshine, a service comprising ten other youth specific agencies. The aim is to deliver individual and group assistance in a welcoming environment.
Young people can receive advice on returning to study, course information and study pathways. Staff can book individual appointments with a careers counsellor. They can also assist young people to fill out direct entry applications and navigate the VTAC system.
Youth Community Gateways will deliver a weekly program to help young people in the community with:
- resume writing
- job search
- online applications
- interview skills
- career investigation
- course investigation
- course applications
Youth Support Officer, Jackie Kovacevic, said: "Youth Community Gateways is innovative in its approach. By providing a youth specific entry point into education and giving them the skills and knowledge around careers and employment, young people are empowered to make informed decisions about their future".
Young people are welcome to drop-in or make an appointment from Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm.
