Working on the wizard

There nothing like real project experience to test your skills as VU Student recently discovered.

Makeup Students at VU's School of Service Industries channelled the Wizard of Oz as part of a class project to put their learning to work. Using basic techniques, the students created the dramatic looks required for an attention-grabbing photo-shoot.  From hair and makeup through to costuming and props, the student took control and using the elements learnt so far, created the complete package.

Like the key Wizard of Oz characters the students needed the brains to the design the complete theme, the heart to be fully involved in their creativity and courage to implement their visions.

"The energy was incredible.  The students have achieved so much more than they could have dreamed of before they started this program" says Sam Pattison, the VU teacher in charge of the mayhem. "It was fantastic to see everyone working as a team to get the project done. "

Students are working towards a CUA51015 Diploma of Screen and Media (previously Diploma in Specialist Make Up Services), a qualification that will see them graduate with the necessary skills to work in theatre, film and Television.  School of Service Industries offers courses in a variety of personal services occupations including hairdressing, salon management, make-up, fashion modeling, and beauty therapy.

Our team of professional, highly qualified educators are committed to providing students with the skills needed for a career in this industry.  Short courses at VU are also an opportunity to get focused training to keep your skills up to date.
