Nearly 350 students and staff donated their time and skills in dozens of community projects across 30 organisations for V4U Day on Friday 14 October.

The aim of V4U is to strengthen the University’s relationship with the community as a sign of our appreciation for their support of the University.

It also aims to foster the value of giving back among students and staff.

Volunteers gardened at schools and aged care homes, and worked at urban nature park and wetlands, Newells Paddock. Others helped out with administration, worked with young people and the elderly or lent a hand to hold an all-abilities sports day.

"It was heart-warming to see first-hand our students and staff helping others in our community", said V4U patron Dr Dianne Foggo, AM, who joined Vice-Chancellor Peter Dawkins and other senior University staff to visit Annecto David House, Newells Paddock and Uniting AgeWell.

“V4U is a great platform to use your skills to give back to the community. It helped me grow and develop my leadership skills”, added repeat volunteer Tuli Serra.

V4U participants receive credit toward student leadership qualifications.

All equipment and materials for the projects were funded by VU.

V4U Day will return next year on Friday 12 May to align with National Volunteer Week.
