A Melbourne student record-label has followed up last year's award-winning release with a fresh new compilation of local artists.
Potential Unlimited 5 features 13 tracks from local talents Oscar + Martin and hard-core House Vs Hurricane with up and coming artists. It is being launched on 4 October 2012.
Last year's Potential Unlimited 4 won "Best campus label CD" in the US-based Independent Music Awards judged by Keith Richards, Tom Waits and Tori Amos.
CDs on the Potential Unlimited label are produced by Victoria University Bachelor of Business (Music Industry) students in the Music Industry stream, whose assessment includes negotiating rights to use an artist's songs in the annual compilation.
Victoria University music industry lecturer Adrian Marchesani said theirs was one of Australia's only Bachelor of Business degrees focusing on the music industry.
"The project provides valuable experience for students entering the music business as well as a platform for budding groups to build their profile," he said. "Since last year our students now have an international reputation from which to leverage off as they set out in the music industry."
Students will launch Potential Unlimited 5 at Kindred Studios in Yarraville on 4 October 2012 with performances by bands featured on the CD, James Gowans and The Evidence, as well as exciting up and comers Luna Ghost.
Mushroom Music chairman Ian James will be guest speaker.
The Potential Unlimited 5 Launch Party will be at Kindred Studios, 212a Whitehall Street Yarraville on 4 October 2012 from 6.30pm.
