100 years teaching Footscray

In 2016 Victoria University will celebrate the Centenary of the founding of Victoria University’s predecessor, the Footscray Technical School and our 25th anniversary as a University.

Both of these events give us a chance to reflect on our heritage and to share our vision for the future as the University of Opportunity. While VU traces its origins directly from Footscray Technical School, it is an amalgam of many predecessor institutions, each of which has brought something distinctive to the university.

We will acknowledge the very important role community has played in shaping the last 100 years - in Celebrating a Centenary of Opportunity, we know it's as much about our community, as it is about us.

Program of activity

We are very much looking forward to the Centenary Program announcement in late August 2015, in which the full Program will be revealed.

2016 will feature a year-long program of activities and events, involving our students, staff, friends and partners locally and across the globe. Through these we want to uncover and celebrate links between families within VU.

There are currently many examples of sons and daughters, sisters and brothers, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, even grandparents who have made their way through VU and its predecessors - from 1916 right through to the present day. But it's not just blood that binds - your community can be family too.

There will be a myriad of ways you can get involved in the life of the university in its Centenary year.
