More than 400 Victoria University students and staff will volunteer for dozens of community projects across Maribyrnong, Brimbank and Moonee Valley in the University’s annual Volunteer for You (V4U) Day on Friday 10 October.
Fuelled by an early morning breakfast and official launch on Footscray’s Nicholson Street mall, the volunteers will fan out in teams to garden, paint, clean, collect litter, and participate in activities with the elderly, migrants, the disabled and school children.
Now in its fourth year, V4U draws VU volunteers from all areas of study and all campuses, with the aim of building relationships between students, academics and the local community.
Seven of the projects will be undertaken as part of VU and Maribyrnong City Council’s 10-year strategy to rejuvenate Footscray as a ‘university town.’
Student volunteers receive credit toward student leadership qualifications through the program, which has been nationally recognised for excellence by the Australian Association of Campus Activities.
