Victoria University will present a $2000 cheque for science infrastructure to Taylors Lakes Secondary College after its students proved the brainiest during last year's Science Experience event.
Foundation Studies senior lecturer Marcus Jobling will present the cheque at a special assembly at the school on Monday, February 14.
Four Year 9 students from the college took out the Ultimate Challenge during the climax of VU's three-day Science Experience in December.
The students also won a year's subscription to New Scientist magazine. They will each have their Victorian Certificate of Education science books paid for when they reach their senior schooling years.
Held at VU's Footscray Park campus, the Science Experience brought together more than 140 Year 9 students from 10 western region colleges to carry out a diverse range of hands-on science experiences. Each student undertook five scientific experiences over the three days as well as taking part in a number of side activities.
The Ultimate Challenge pitted a group of four students from each school against each other in a showdown of science knowledge, which included questions relating to their secondary curriculum.
Leon Li, Jai Bhamral, Andrew Spalato and Georgia Dow were judged winners of the competition after they triumphed over their nearest competing school.Where: Taylors Lakes Secondary College, 1-39 Parmelia Drive, Taylors Lakes
