The training regime of junior netballers at Victoria University has been given a boost with the establishment of a new Netball Academy.
An initiative of the University's Sport and Fitness team, the academy will provide additional training for juniors to help them reach the ranks of elite teams including VU's Western Lightning.
VU sports officer Catherine Saunders said 30 players from the region had been selected to train with the academy "" half from the Under-15 competition, and the remainder from the Under-17s.
"Head coach Laura Sharkey, a VU graduate and former player with the Melbourne Phoenix, will work with other specialised coaches to develop skills of the squad in intense training sessions once a month," Ms Saunders said.
"The squad will also have the opportunity to take part in the National Talent Identification Program and in sessions conducted by VU's nutritional therapy and osteopathy student clinics."
The academy's next training session will be on Friday April 30 at the basketball courts in Building L at VU's Footscray Park Campus from 6-8pm.
Media are invited to attend.
