The Expo is a major annual careers event where VU students and graduates, meet with VU partners in the hospitality, tourism and events management sector, to discuss upcoming employment and work experience opportunities.
This year’s 20th annual Expo sees the announcement of the inaugural winner of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council sponsored Todd Blake Student Award, which will be presented annually to an exceptional VU student in the tourism, events or hospitality fields.
The award is in memory of VU alumni Todd Blake. It was established by VU; Todd’s employer, the Victorian Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Victoria Tourism Industry Council, of which Todd was CEO.
The Todd Blake Student Award is open to VU students in Hospitality, Tourism and Events programs who have displayed the same passion, commitment, leadership, and can-do attitude as Todd.
The Todd Blake Student Award is an annual cash prize of $500.00 that can be used for books, course fees or other study-related assistance; and a practical component which may involve mentoring with distinguished industry representative or a practical work experience that reflects Todd’s interest.
VU partners include Crown Hotels, The Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, ACCOR/Hotel Sofitel, the Melbourne Convention Bureau, Altara – recruiting cabin crew for Jetstar and Tigerair, RACV Club, Australian Pacific Touring, Midsumma Festival, Eureka Skydeck, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, the Western Bulldogs Football Club, Ascott International, IHG, Destination Melbourne, Marriott Hotels, Sundowners Overland/Vodkatrain, Choice Hotels Australasia, and Ci Events.
The Expo will be held on Friday 6 September, from 10.30 am and 1.00 pm, at level 12, Victoria University, City Flinders campus. It is part of Victoria Tourism Week, a major initiative of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council and Destination Melbourne.
