Professor Cheng Wei, President of Liaoning University, China, will be awarded an Honorary Degree by Victoria University on Wednesday 14 October 2009.
He will be admitted to the degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa, in recognition of in recognition of his leadership in international economics and his outstanding commitment to preparing students for an increasingly globalised world – where borders blur and ideas and people circulate freely.
Professor Cheng has long recognised that education was a key part of globalisation and of the accelerating exchange of ideas, people and products across national borders.
In 1999, he established the Asia Australia Business College at Liaoning University in Shenyang China. Victoria University is proud to be a major partner of the college, delivering a range of programs in English language and business.
It is a reflection of the development of trans-national education that teaching at the College is shared by the two universities. The curriculum and textbooks are provided by Victoria University, and students have a choice of completing their studies in Australia or China.
Each year 3000 students study in these programs either in Shenyang or at Victoria University in Melbourne.
