International students go in to bat with the police
The pitch for Safety Week at Victoria University this year is different - it's a cricket pitch.
International students and Victoria Police will come together to form mixed teams for a social cricket match on Friday, 20 March, ahead of Safety Week starting the following Monday.
The cricket match has been organised by staff at VU International as a way of increasing awareness about student safety and familiarisation with the way police operate in Victoria.
The event will be co-hosted by Cricket Victoria (CV), under its Harmony in Cricket theme. CV will also hold a fastest bowl competition.
The event kicks off with a halal barbecue at 2.30pm.
Where: Footscray Park, adjacent to the VU Campus alongside the Maribyrnong River (Melway ref: 2S G4). Parking is available on Maribyrnong Boulevard.
When: Friday, 20 March
Time: Barbecue 2.30pm, Cricket match 3.00pm
Who: Police officers from the Footscray Multicultural Liaison Unit, international students from Victoria University and their friends, and Cricket Victoria.
