Alan Kohler, one of Australia’s most experienced financial journalists, will take on a new role as adjunct professor in Victoria University’s College of Business.
Dean of the College of Business, Professor Colin Clark said, “This new position of adjunct professor will bring to the College of Business a fresh and immediate approach – an approach that Alan Kohler is famous for. He makes what can seem incredibly complicated appear very clear and simple with a few well chosen words – and maybe a graph.”
Alan Kohler has had a long interest in family businesses and central to his role at VU will be promoting the value of financial education – which is critical for small, medium and large businesses. Financial literacy means students, teachers and the general community can take personal responsibility for their finances. Alan will also contribute to curriculum development in the College of Business.
Alan is the founder of Eureka Report, Australia’s most successful investment newsletter, and Business Spectator, a 24-hour free business news and commentary website.
He has been a financial journalist since 1971. He wrote the Chanticleer column on the back page of the “Australian Financial Review” for four years. Appointed deputy editor, then editor of the Financial Review in 1983, he returned to the Chanticleer column in 1988.
Between 1992 and 1995, Alan was Editor of The Age newspaper in Melbourne. Up to July 2007 he also wrote columns for John Fairfax publications, The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian Financial Review.
Since 1995 he has worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation first as a business and economic reporter on the 7.30 Report and then as a finance presenter on the nightly News and presenter of Inside Business.
Commenting on this latest appointment Alan Kohler said, “I’m looking forward to working with the people at Victoria University and helping them consolidate their growth in financial education, and it will complement my continuing work with News Corporation and the ABC.”
