Workshop on integrity & regulation of sport in Australia

Learn more about current issues inherent in sport law, regulation, governance & integrity in this half-day workshop.

This workshop will be delivered by industry keynotes, panel speakers & academics. You will learn about key tools and practical applications of concepts, with resources that can be applied in your workplace.

Program

The focus of the presentations and discussions will centre around:

  • the deregulated market in Australia
  • the scope for potentially formalising agency requirements
  • issues of comparative jurisdictions, and how might this regulation be framed and operate in the workplace.

The workshop will conclude with a 90 minute sport industry panel that will discuss and take questions about national and global issues around governance in sport regulation.

12:00 noon: Lunch provided to all paid attendees

 

12:30 pm: SESSION 1: Analysis of the Australian Sports Commission

  • key regulatory overview; structure
  • key responsibilities, mandate and areas for reform
  • recent developments regarding state vs. federal governance.

2:00 pm: SESSION 2: Sports Agency – Regulation in Australia

  • in a deregulated market, is there scope for formalising agency requirements?
  • what might this regulation look like?
  • comparative jurisdictions – key indicators and whether there is a correlation between agency and player success and longevity, player payment and player conformance with general policy
  • How might this regulation be framed and operate in the workplace?

3:30 pm: SESSION 3: Sports Industry Panel

  • Panellists to discuss national and global issues around governance in sport regulation.
