What is education and what is its purpose?

This event has already taken place.

Thursday 27 November 2014

The session will provide a snapshot of the Reggio Emilia International Study Tour, discuss existing programs and propose possibilities for educational programs in Australia.

Professor Pat Drake, Dean, College of Education, invites you to attend this last of the series of talks in the 2014 Diamond Series.

In April, 2014 the presenters Dr Catherine Hamm, Jenny Aitken and Jan Hunt travelled to Northern Italy to explore the internationally renowned educational programs of Reggio Emilia. Within the community children are viewed as active protagonists of their own learning in a research based, co- constructed learning process. In Reggio Emilia infant –toddler centres and schools, expression, creativity and aesthetics are integral to children’s pursuit of understanding and meaning.

Panel Discussion: Two additional study tour delegates, a Kindergarten Teacher from Melbourne who implements a Reggio Emilia inspired program and a specialist arts educator involved in teaching community arts programs, will join the presenters to provide deeper insights into this inspirational and exciting educational experience.
