The exchange factor

Tuesday 9 June 2015

Join us for this free public discussion that explores the dramatic impact of technology and ways that crowd funding is shifting how artists, audiences and communities connect.

The event will consist of discussions in an intimate Q&A format at the community hub in the heart of Footscray, VU at MetroWest.

Entrepreneur Alan Crabbe will be leading the discussion as part of the Game Changers series. The series presents pivotal concepts, personalities and moments in Australia’s evolving story for public discussion and debate.

Alan co-founded Australia’s first crowd funding platform, Pozible. He will outline the opportunities he expected by building Pozible, what the journey so far has taught him and what his current directions are as a result of the new technologies disrupting the landscape for creative entrepreneurs. He sees a collision taking place between several technology platforms and believes that there is a new social commerce emerging as a result.

Crowd funding nearly tripled last year, becoming a $16 billion dollar industry and is expected to lap itself again this year. Whilst crowd funding is used for everything from investing in real estate to supporting musicians, the largest portion of funds generated last year was used for launching businesses. It's attracting the attention of the corporate giants and brand ambassadors and it's shifting the way consumers engage as audiences with and for artists. But what's next?

Madeleine Dore, Deputy Editor of, is fascinated by the intersections of art and entrepreneurship. She is a full time thought-explorer who can't wait to sit with Alan and investigate his reflections and predictions about web-based technologies, user interface design and what he thinks the next five years have in store for audiences and creatives and the digital realm.
