Conference: Future directions for food in Timor-Leste

This event has already taken place.

Thursday 11 July 2013 to Friday 12 July 2013

We invite you to join us at Future Directions for Food in Timor-Leste, a conference on improving nutrition, cuisine, food markets and rural livelihoods in East Timor, to be held on 11 & 12 July at the National Convention Centre, Dili.

Now at peace, Timor-Leste has money in its Petroleum Fund, but is almost at the bottom of world tables comparing levels of nutrition in 2013. Due to its very particular history, many of the population's traditional skills in food production, food preparation and food marketing were lost during the occupation.

The conference will bring together people from a wide variety of academic fields, including agriculture, trade, education, community development, health and engineering.

Following the conference, there will be an exhibition from local organisations on the presented themes, then a second conference by the Timor-Leste Studies Association on Understanding Timor-Leste (15 & 16 July). When booking both conferences together, a discount fee is available.

Victoria University and the National University of East Timor (Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e - UNTL) hold a collaborative conference biennially (every second year), alternating with a study tour.
