Professor Gregory Blatch invites you to the first Dean’s Lecture at 11am on Friday May 30, 2014.

Professor Maximilian de Courten MD, MPH wil give the lecture, titled Chronic diseases: the need to act now.

After the lecture, we invite all attendees to join us for lunch in the atrium area outside the auditorium.

About the speaker

Professor de Courten is a Global Public Health expert with substantial experience in interventions ranging from the pathophysiology of non-communicable diseases, clinical trials, community-based programs to international government policies for chronic disease control.

research focus is Global Health and disease surveillance in the area of chronic diseases.

He has worked in a range of different organizations, such as:

  • large governmental research institutes (the NIH in the US)
  • inter-governmental institutions (WHO)
  • private research institutions (IDI, Melbourne)
  • academia (University of Copenhagen, Monash and Deakin University, University of Bern).

His specific technical knowledge covers the fields of:

  • clinical trials
  • health services
  • epidemiology
  • community-based obesity and diabetes prevention initiatives
  • health policy
  • health promotion
  • disease control
  • global health education.
