There are four types of changes that can be made to an existing course:

  • minor modification
  • minor amendment
  • major amendment
  • reaccreditation.

Definitions

  • A minor modification is the smallest change that can be made where there is no approval required as there are a limited number of fields available to edit (as seen below).
  • A minor amendment requires review and approval from within the College and sign off at DVC level.
  • A major amendment is an update that proposes significant impact requires approval at Courses Committee and Academic Board levels.
  • A reaccreditation of a course occurs following the completion of a Comprehensive Course Review.
  • Any changes to award, title, code, duration, credit points or Field of Study coding will require a new code which will mean the course will be classified as "new" (see Creating a new course).

Minor modification

When you make a minor modification, the following course fields are available to edit:

  • Career Outcomes
  • Course Chair
  • Introduction.

  2. In development - coordinator makes changes
  3. Governance - AQS Course Management Officer confirms Final Versions

Minor amendment

When you make a minor amendment, the following course fields are available to edit:

  • Career Outcomes
  • Competitor Benchmarking
  • Course Chair
  • Course Structure
  • Course Suspended
  • Course Teaching Out
  • Graduate Capabilities
  • Graduate Statement
  • Include in Course Finder
  • Interstate & Offshore Location module
  • Introduction
  • Links to other Qualifications
  • Location
  • Mode of Delivery
  • Mode of Study
  • Nested Course Code
  • Professional Accreditation
  • Target Market
  • Transition Arrangements
  • Unit Sets (attaching/removing in structure).

Major amendment

A major amendment is an update that proposes significant impact on:

  • Admission Requirements
  • Course Completion Rules
  • Course Learning Outcomes
  • Course Majors/ Minors
  • Compliance with the VU Model
  • CRICOS
  • Delivery location
  • Specialist resourcing or staffing needs
  • AQF, ESOS or other regulatory requirements
  • Professional accreditation status
  • The content and/or delivery of VU courses offered by other Colleges
  • Other significant aspects deemed by the Provost (PP) to require consideration by Academic Board.

Reaccreditation

When reaccreditation of a course occurs following a Comprehensive Course Review ALL fields are emptied and available to update.
