Setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Before you get started, make sure you:

  • have your phone handy
  • have setup a lock screen on your phone
  • are at your computer/laptop to complete the registration process.

Open the App Store to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator App on your phone.

Allow notifications and click OK.

Skip through the setup wizard to the “Accounts” screen.

Click “Add Account” to add your “Work or school” account.

You will need to allow the Authenticator app access to your camera to complete the setup process.

Now you have the App installed on your phone, let’s get you registered for MFA! Go to

Sign in using your VU account username and password.

Setup your MFA to push notifications to you through the Mobile App for the most secure MFA verification method.

At this point get your phone again – it should still be in the Authenticator App waiting to scan the QR code.

Point the camera at the computer screen to scan the QR code.

On your computer click “Next”

Now that the App is configured* you need to confirm the MFA setup.

*Verification times vary, it may take a minute or so.

Accept the MFA challenge on your phone to finalise the connection and setup of the Authenticator App.

Finish the registration on your computer by adding a phone number in case you cannot use or access the Authenticator App on your phone.

Remain signed in.

Check your details are correct.

You can add additional landline and mobile numbers at this point if you like and press cancel.

You have successfully registered and set up your phone for MFA.
