Amrita Hameen

International student, Early Childhood Education & Care

One of the biggest changes would have been the lifestyle change. I did have to leave my family behind and all my loved ones. But it took time, and it's been really rewarding so far.

I'm Amrita Hameen. I am from Sri Lanka. I started with my Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at VU Polytechnic. And I'm currently in my second year, studying my Bachelors of Early Childhood Education.

The reason I chose to come study here in Australia, was because I really wanted a different experience to what my country offered. I absolutely love the vibrancy of Melbourne over here, and everything that the country and the city has to offer.

Education has been a big part of my childhood. I've always loved children and I've always loved teaching. I thought, "Why not pursue my passion when I'm older?"

The reason that I chose VU Polytechnic, was because it was among the top five unis that I had in mind when I was planning to move over here. There was a lot of industry connections and its blended learning model just seemed really supportive towards the lifestyle that I was looking for.

So with the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, it's divided into three main components. One being your online learning, the second one being placements, and the third one being your face to face classes.

My teachers have been absolutely great. They've been supportive, they've been friendly, accommodative, and they've just helped me be the best version of myself. I've made contacts at every placement I've been on. Through every excursion, in every class. We've had the opportunity of meeting different people, and it's really helped me grow as an educator.

I would recommend VU Polytechnic. It's been a great experience for me and I've absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. It's helped me use my knowledge purposefully and it's benefited me greatly. It's been absolutely rewarding.
