I felt extremely excited when I found out that I was going to NASA .

It's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

We're going to be working on many projects as a team. And so we will doing some cool stuff like how to launch a rocket, how to program a robot on Mars.

Professor Adrian Stoica is a NASA research scientist and a VU engineering alumnus.

His journey from VU to NASA is an inspiration to students.

Professor Adrian Stoica, NASA Research Scientist.

Professor Adrian Stoica:

I was finishing the PhD and I met a researcher at a conference in the United States. By the way, this was through a VU scholarship that I was able to travel there.

I told that gentleman that I'm finishing my PhD, and he said that I'm starting a company in Silicon Valley on Artificial Intelligence, which was kind of what I was interested in.

So I said, "well, okay I'd like to join”. So that's kind of how it started.

Assoc Prof Thinh Nguyen, Head, VU Academy for Social Change and leadership.

Assoc Prof Thinh Nguyen:

Adrian's visit was very beneficial to the students. In that it gave the students a sense of what it takes to get from VU to a place like NASA, which is one of the most exciting places on earth. And with the opportunities they have, they're really excited about it.

I think that it's going be just like a huge motivation in life for me.

Ever since I was small I always knew that I had to do something because it's our existence, right? Space, or ocean. Space, dream come true.
