Professor Michael McKenna
Hi, I'm Professor Michael McKenna. I'm the Executive Director of the Institute for Health and Sport at Victoria University, in Melbourne, Australia.
The Institute for Health and Sport is a brand new institute just started in 2018 from the amalgamation of our world renown Institute of Sport, Exercise and Active Living (or ISEAL) and our Centre for Chronic Disease.
It's an institute that spans the whole of the university and is designed to integrate all of our research in health and sport. We have around 116 staff and 250 PhD students.
We're supported by world class infrastructure. Our laboratories in sport and exercise science, biomedical science and clinical supports are outstanding.
Our research is within four programs. Our first research program is mechanisms and interventions in health and disease. And research addresses the fundamentals mechanisms of cells, biological systems and disease processes.
The second research program is clinical and community health and wellbeing. And research in this program is to enhance and promote individual as well as community health and wellbeing.
Our third research program is inclusive and healthy communities - sport, physical activity and culture. Research in this program addresses the question how, why and to what extent do sport, physical activity and culture shape individuals, communities and society.
Our fourth research program is sport performance and business. This research aims to enhance the performance of sport in the training, competition and the business environments.
This Institute for Health and Sport welcomes collaboration. We'd be delighted to talk with you about your research needs and interests and how with our research capabilities in health and sport we can work together to do great research.
We're really excited about the new Institute for Health and Sport.
