Office 365 for students

As a VU student, you can download and install Office 365 ProPlus for free on up to 5 personal computers/devices. This includes:

  • Office 365 ProPlus for PC/Windows (Office 2013 ProPlus)
  • Office 365 ProPlus for Mac (Office 2011 for Mac)
  • Office mobile for iPhone
  • Office mobile for Android.

This is available as part of the Microsoft Student Advantage program.

Office 365 ProPlus products provided

Office 365 ProPlus provides the following 2013 products for PC:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint
  • OneNote
  • Access
  • Publisher
  • Outlook
  • Lync
  • InfoPath.

Office 365 ProPlus provides the following 2011 products for Mac:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint
  • Outlook.

Download and installation instructions

You can install the software on a total of 5 computers. Follow the instructions to install another installation of Office ProPlus. You can deactivate a licence from a computer via the Office 365 Settings > Software page.

Instructions for PC/Windows installation

Use the following instructions or if you prefer, download the PC/Windows instructions with screenshots.

  1. Navigate to www.vu.edu.au/studentmail.
  2. Login with your student email details (e.g. firstname.lastname@live.vu.edu.au).
  3. Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner, and then select Office 365 settings.
  4. Click Software in the left menu.
  5. Select your desired language.
  6. If you are installing Office for Windows, Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit installation. Select Advanced if you wish to install the 64-bit version instead.
  7. Click Install to download and install the latest version of Office.
  8. When prompted to Run or Save the setup, select Run. Otherwise you can save, and run the setup later.
  9. Click Yes on the User Account Control.
  10. Click Next on the welcome screen.
  11. Enter your student email address and click Next.
  12. Select Organisational account.
  13. Enter your student email password and click Sign in.
  14. Office will connect to your student email account.
  15. Select Next.
  16. Select Use recommended settings and then click Accept.
  17. Select Next.
  18. Click Next on the 'Meet OneDrive' screen.
  19. Choose an Office background and click Next.
  20. Select Take a look to see the introduction or choose No thanks.
  21. Click All done!

Instructions for Mac installation

Use the following instructions or if you prefer, download the Mac instructions with screenshots.

    1. Navigate to www.vu.edu.au/studentmail.
    2. Login with your student email details (e.g. firstname.lastname@live.vu.edu.au).
    3. Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner, and then select Office 365 settings.
    4. Click Software in the left menu.
    5. Select your desired language.
    6. If you are installing Office for Windows, Microsoft recommends using the 32-bit installation. Select Advanced if you wish to install the 64-bit version instead.
    7. Click Install to download and install the latest version of Office.
    8. When prompted Save the setup DMG file. Double Click the DMG file.
    9. Click Office Installer
    10. Click Continue on the welcome screen.
    11. Click Continue
    12. Click Continue
    13. Select Install
    14. Enter your MAC username and password
    15. Click Close
    16. Select Sign in to existing Office 365 subscription
    17. Enter your Student Email address, Click Next
    18. Select Organisational account
    19. Enter your student email password and Click Sign In
    20. Enter First Name, Last Name and Click Continue
    21. Select your preference in options
    22. Select Done

    Accessing Office 365 ProPlus

    Once installed, you can use Office 365 offline or online, and it has the same features as other versions of Office.

    Office 365 ProPlus licence

    Students currently enrolled at Victoria University are eligible for the Office 365 ProPlus Licence. To keep the software activated, you must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days. Once you have graduated Office 365 ProPlus licence will expire.
