Expand your opportunities in renewable energy and gain an accreditation as a Solar Grid Connect Designer and Installer.

You'll study the Electrotechnology National Training Package to become an Electrician trained to meet Clean Energy Council (CEC) Accreditation standards.

This course covers the following areas:

  • revision of basic electrical concepts
  • OH&S (working at heights and working with DC)
  • solar radiation
  • site and solar access evaluations
  • system component operation including PV panels and inverters
  • system design (including calculations for matching panels with inverters, circuit protection/isolation, voltage drop and cable sizing)
  • system installation and connections at array, inverter and switchboard (practical and theory components)
  • signage (practical and theory components)
  • monitoring/displays
  • metering arrangements
  • supply authority/inspectors requirements
  • system efficiencies and losses
  • renewable energy certificates/solar credits
  • commissioning (practical and theory components)
  • documentation
  • routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • australian standards requirements 3000, 4.777/1/2/3 & 5.033.

Pre-entry requirements: You must hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Course duration: 2 days (16 hours)

Grid-connect PV Design units

Pre-entry requirements: You must hold the following unit codes: UEENEEE101A, UEENEEE102A, UEENEEE104A, UEENEEE105A, UEENEEG106A, UEENEEE107A, UEENEEE137A or hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Course duration: 3 days (24 hours)

Course cost: $905

Grid-connect PV Design and Install units

Pre-entry requirements: You must hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

This course allows successful students to register and gain a licence to install solar panels with Energy Safe Victoria.

Course contents

To be granted a TNSOL Solar Grid Connect Statement of Attainment, a student must successfully complete one stream.

TNSOL Solar Grid Connect: Design

Pre-entry requirements: It is essential that anyone undertaking this stream hold the following unit codes: UEENEEE101A, UEENEEE102A, UEENEEE104A, UEENEEE105A, UEENEEG106A, UEENEEE107A, UEENEEE137A or hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Course Duration: 3 days

TNSOL Solar Grid Connect: Install

Pre-entry requirements: It is essential that anyone undertaking this stream hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Course Duration: 2 days

TNSOL Solar Grid Connect: Design and Install

Pre-entry requirements: It is essential that anyone undertaking this stream hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Course Duration: 5 days

Credit Transfers

Previous completion of units at Victoria Polytechnic or any other Registered Training Organisation may be credited towards this course. Units must be assessed as appropriate and approved by Victoria Polytechnic.

Admission requirements

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course.

Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

It is essential that anyone undertaking this non-award course must meet the pre-requisite entry requirements for each stream or hold a current unrestricted electrical licence issued in an Australian State or Territory. This admission requirement satisfies the unit prerequisites and the Clean Energy Council accreditation requirement.

Prior to enrolment, all applicants will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment to assist with determining eligibility and to identify learning support needs.
