Associate Professor Thinh Nguyen

Thinh is currently Head, VU Academy for Social Change & Leadership.
Thinh completed his PhD in Photonics at VU. He has research interests in effective student learning strategies, including problem-based learning and gamification in education.
Thinh has implemented numerous innovative teaching strategies including overseeing the successful Trident Peer Mentoring program for first year maths and physics in engineering. This program has resulted in significant student improvements in these units. Thinh has also successfully implemented problem-based learning in a number of units in engineering.
He has received a number of teaching awards including the Vice Chancellor's Peak Award as well as an OLT Citation. He also lectures in the areas of physics, photonics, project management.
Thinh was previously a Director of Learning and Teaching in the College. In this role he was responsible for the strategic implementation of problem-based learning, practice-integrated learning and other student-centred teaching practices. He was also responsible for overseeing the College’s move to online and blended learning. Thinh managed course accreditations and quality assurance during this time.
