Inner west bathed in light for the 2018 West Projections Festival

Melbourne’s inner west will shine bright after-dark when West Projections Festival flicks the switch on over 30 light installations all over the west in August. Now in its fifth year, the 2018 West Projections Festival has expanded to Seddon and West Footscray villages and will feature over 25 artists across 36 locations.

Abandoned shopfronts, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, art spaces, laneways, Victoria University campuses and train stations are just some of the locations that will be transformed by large-scale projections, sound installations, animation, performances and virtual reality.

This annual event has fast become part of Melbourne’s festival calendar with a public program of events offered alongside the self-guided tour of the projection sites and is tailored to families, local residents and visitors seeking out unique ways to discover Melbourne’s inner west.

The program features an installation and celebration at specialty store Post Industrial Design in West Footscray, a series of curated walks with artists talks and the return of the kids disco at Kindred Studios with the addition of a ‘drive-in’ theatre interactive experience.

Each year West Projections takes on a theme, with non-fiction bringing a literary twist to this year’s artistic content and program.

The Festival will be officially launched in Nicholson Street Mall on Friday 17 August from 6.30-8.30pm with a pop-up dance floor, food trucks, live music and a series of impressive projections.
