Community Tree Planting Day 2026
On Friday 31 July 2026 we’re planning to plant 2,500 trees! Will you join us?
It's a fun and rewarding community event, where you can roll up your sleeves, meet new people and enjoy a hot drink and a bite to eat between plantings.
We’re running three planting sessions across the day, so you can choose a time that suits you best.
Since 2022, VU has planted 17,500 trees at our Werribee Campus, an initiative funded and supported by the Victorian Government’s More Trees for a Cooler, Greener West program which aims to plant 500,000 trees to increase tree canopy coverage in Melbourne's western suburbs. Together, we aim to reduce urban temperatures, combat air pollution and enhance community health.
The trees we’re planting also help make VU’s campuses and spaces are welcoming, resilient and sustainable. This year the trees we’re planting are sourced from Wadawurrung nursery and Newport nursery.
Everyone is welcome to join! So, whether you’re a student, a staff member, from a partner organisation, or live in the local community, join us for a fun couple of hours where we’ll do our bit in greening the west!
