The rise of digital media has changed the way young people discover, use and share information. This unit will analyse the impact that social media and other forms of new technology have on the social, cultural and educational development of young people. Social media refers to social network sites, video sharing sites, blogging and micro blogging platforms, and related tools that allow young people to create and share their own content. Issues such as digital identity, safety and play in the context of social media and games will be central to this unit of study. Through a combination of hands-on workshops, critical analysis and projects the university student will be encouraged to build their understanding of, and familiarity with, these emergent technologies.
