Your first day

The first day on campus is a little daunting as you try to find your way around campus and work out what you need to do. These tips will help make your first day a little easier.

Student email

After you have enrolled you can activate your student email (allow 48 hours to process your enrolment first).

It's a good idea to check your VU email regularly - this is where we will send course updates and important student information.

Student ID card

You can get your student ID card from one of our Student Service Centres. Your student card lets you:

  • validate your enrolment status
  • borrow from the library
  • access services like counselling and student advisory services
  • get student deals on magazine subscriptions, RACV (Royal Automobile Club of Victoria) memberships and other student-specific offers.

Timetables

If you are a higher education student you will need to get a copy of your course timetables and allocate yourself into classes.

Understanding your timetable

Your timetable will indicate the styles of class by the following codes:

  • L = lecture
  • LA = lab
  • PL = placement/clinic
  • TU = tutorial
  • WA = Workshop

Finding your classroom

Most of our rooms follow a simple numbering system. For example if your class is in room A315 you need building A, level 3, room 15.

You can download a campus map for each of your campuses. Or download our iPhone app - it has maps of all of our campuses so you can easily find your way around.

Advice from students and teachers

Our students and lecturers talk about common transition issues and how to solve them. Watch the videos.
