The Postgraduate Research Training Program Matrix helps you and your supervisor determine which workshops would benefit your research development. The 2012 Research Training Program Guide gives you vital information about how the program was developed, how sessions are released for registration, how to register and where to find updates.

The Postgraduate Research Training Schedule for 2012 is now available.  Changes and updates will be sent via email. Registration is through our online booking system. You will be emailed when sessions are open for registration.

Induction program

The Induction program is for newly enrolled research students. It covers important information along with a social event.

Induction sessions have been scheduled for 12th April, 11th September and 13th December 2012. Further information will be sent via email closer to the event.

Postgraduate experience forum

The end of year postgraduate experience forum provides an opportunity for research students and staff to come together and reflect on the year's experience. Dates will be made available closer to the event. See a summary from the 2010 forum.

PhD coursework units

VU offers two core coursework units to support students in the initial stages of their doctoral degree. The units are designed to contribute to the development of a high-quality candidature proposal (and Ethics Application if required), and to successful practice as an independent researcher in the contemporary Australian and global research environment.

The two core units are available to all PhD students commencing their studies from semester 1, 2012.

Students who are enrolled full-time in the PhD program will normally be expected to complete both units in the first semester. Part-time students will normally be expected to undertake one unit per semester across the first year of study.

For more information about the PhD coursework units, including course outlines, schedules and answers to frequently asked questions, download the PhD Coursework Units brochure. Alternatively, you can contact Dr Amanda Pearce (Wed -Thu).
