Centre for Telecommunications and Micro-Electronics (CTME)

In this section

We undertake research and development in telecommunications and microelectronic technologies with a focus on photonics and optical technology, future wireless telecommunication services, micro and nano electronic systems.

We have strong partnerships with government, industry and research centres nationally and internationally. We are affiliated with the Australian Communications Research Network (ACoRN), and the National Networked Teletest Facility for Integrated Systems (NNTTF).

We pride ourselves on selecting research projects that benefit the industry, and are academically challenging.

Photonics Research Group (PRG)

PRG green lightThis is a specialised group in CTME that undertakes research into the manipulation of light (photonics) and the production of photonic-based devices, such as fibre lasers, fibre amplifiers and fibre-optic sensors. The Photonics Research Group (PRG) is a leading research institute in optical communications, optical fibre-based sensing, microscopic imaging and liquid crystal technologies.

Scholarships

We receive funding from industry and government sources for applied research. Applications for most government scholarships close in October each year and industry scholarships are generally available throughout the year, depending on the availability of funds.

Research students in the following areas are invited to contact us:
