Before you start

There are a few things you can do before you start uni to make the transition easier. If you are unsure of how to do any of these things or need some help, Orientation is a great time to ask for help. Most importantly, have fun, and good luck with your studies!

Paperwork (administration)

  • Check that your enrolment details are correct using MyVU portal

  • Make sure you are aware of the census date, and its importance. Check our important study dates on ASKVU or the academic calendar for details
  • Allocate yourself to tutorials, labs or other classes relevant to your course via MyTimetable.

First four weeks

The first four weeks of uni life are a lot of fun, but it can sometimes be a bit daunting. Check out our tips to make your first weeks at uni easier.

On and around campus

Our campuses are located across Melbourne's western suburbs and the city centre. It's easy to get to our campuses by public transport or driving.

We also offer services to get you to and from campus, including security escorts, a car pooling program and evening shuttle buses.

Your safety is important to us, so check out our personal safety tips.

Finding your classroom

Your timetable will indicate the styles of class by the following codes:

  • L = lecture
  • LA = lab
  • PL = placement/clinic
  • TU = tutorial
  • WA = Workshop

Most of our rooms follow a simple numbering system. For example if your class is in room A315 you need building A, level 3, room 15.

You can download a campus map for each of your campuses. Or download our iPhone app - it has maps of all of our campuses so you can easily find your way around.

Ask for help

Check out our Getting Involved, Getting Help brochure - it has helpful support service information. There is a copy of it in your student diary too so you can always contact us when you need to.

We also run workshops and provide learning support to improve your general and subject-specific academic study techniques, writing, maths and English skills.

Advice from students and teachers

Our students and lecturers talk about common transition issues and how to solve them. Watch the videos.

Social life and getting involved
