Hume Anglican Grammar moves in to Sunbury

Mon 1 March 2010

The Hume Anglican Grammar School has moved in to the University’s Sunbury campus, which was vacated by VU at the end of last year.

The small but growing independent school has about 350 students and 40 staff. It was based at Craigieburn during 2008 and 2009 and intends to establish a permanent home in the area.

The school will make use of 10 buildings in the central part of the site until the end of this year. A limited number of classes are being conducted at the site and the whole school will operate from Sunbury by Term 2.

The school approached the University a few days before Christmas after its arrangements for accommodation during 2010 fell through. VU has worked closely with the administration of the school over the past few months to ensure there would be minimal disruption to the students’ education in 2010.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Management and Capital Services Jon Hickman said the arrangement was a good outcome for all concerned. “The school can be confident it will have secure premises with appropriate educational facilities, and the University is pleased that the Sunbury site will continue to be used for educational purposes,” he said. Jon also commended VU’s Facilities branch for their work over the Christmas period to complete arrangements in time for the start of the school year.

The University is in the process of transitioning its educational programs from the Sunbury campus. With the exception of a Diploma of Events unit that will finish in June of this year, all courses have been relocated to other VU campuses.
