VU involved at Melbourne Writers Festival

Victoria University academics feature strongly in this year's Melbourne Writers Festival line-up.

The Melbourne Writers Festival brings together hundreds of writers – including some of the biggest names in contemporary literature – alongside Astrophysicists, bloggers, feminists, scientists and politicians for a series of events from 20 - 30 August.

Sociology lecturer Dr Anna Branford Will take younger festival goers on a journey through the crafty world of her creatively-minded heroine Violet Mackerel In Get Crafty with Violet Mackerel.

Meanwhile, Overland literary journal editor Jacinda Woodhead joins Laurie Penny, Tim Kennedy and Van Badham to ask how we might address the growing gap between rich and poor in Fair Australia.

Adjunct Professor Dr Michael Hyde will discuss his Footy Passion with writers Nicole Hayes and Josephine Smith.

VU student and tutor Demet Divaroren will investigate just what it’s like Growing up Muslim in Australia with Amra Pajalic and Angela Savag.

Creative and Professional Writing lecturer Dr John Weldon will spend his Sunday exploring Monsters and Mayhem with John Birmingham and delving into Historical Fantasies with Ilka Tampke and CS Pacat.
