AVID Australia Summer Institute 2014

The annual AVID Australia Summer Institute is the primary professional learning event for AVID schools. This year’s Institute will be held from 3-5 December, 2014.

AVID Australia has seen significant growth since its introduction in Australia, five years ago. We are now approaching 25 sites in three states and the Northern Territory with more than 10,000 AVID students across the country. Over 600 educators have attended previous Australian Summer Institutes and we expect a record breaking number in 2014.

The Summer Institute is a three day professional learning program for new and existing AVID educators. Teachers are immersed in a series of interactive workshops introducing them to the knowledge, skills and techniques that have helped over 700,000 American AVID students succeed.

AVID’s explicit teaching framework generates a nurturing learning environment that pays equal attention to students’ academic, social and emotional development. This holistic methodology allows every student, particularly low SES and under-achieving learners, to build their learning capabilities so they’re successful academically and beyond.

The 2014 Summer Institute will feature strands new to Australia in response to the growth of AVID here. These will be customised for the Australian school context.

Join with AVID educators across Australia as they update, consolidate and streamline their teaching strategies for the upcoming 2015 school year.

Registration

AVID Australia Summer Institute 2013

  • Full price, $850 per person

Registering for the AVID Australia Summer Institute 2014 is a simple 2 step process. Your registration is not complete if you have not completed both steps.

Step 1

Purchase tickets for each member of your school delegation who will attend. There are several price packages available to make it easy for schools to register a large number people.

Packages for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 20 registrants are available. So, for instance, if you’d like to register 24 people, simply select one 20 registrants’ package and one 4 registrants’ package.

Educators who are associated with the AVID program can attend the Summer Institute. If you are not affiliated with AVID and would like to find out more about how your school can implement AVID, please contact [email protected].

Step 2

Once you’ve purchased your tickets for the Summer Institute, submit the participant names along with the strands they want to attend.

Strands have restricted numbers (45 participants each) and will run according to demand. Therefore, we ask that each participant nominates two strand preferences. Every effort will be made to place participants in their first strand preference. Once a strand has reached the maximum, no further registrations will be taken for that strand, so get in quick to secure your strand choices.

For more information on the strands that will be on offer this year, consult the 2014 Strand Guide.
