Mother's Day Classic 2015

This event has already taken place.

Sunday 10 May 2015

Join VUNITE at the Mother's Day Classic 2015 for a great family day out to help raise awareness and funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Mother's Day Classic will be held across Australia on Sunday 10 May to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. By joining thousands across the nation on Mother's Day you are making a difference to this valuable research.

About the event

All proceeds from the Mother's Day Classic are donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that supports research into breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

It is a great way to celebrate Mother's Day, raise funds for a great cause and pay tribute to our family members, friends and colleagues who are currently battling, or have won or lost their fight against breast cancer.

The Melbourne Mothers's Day Classic for 2015 will be at Alexandra Gardens and involves a 4km and 8km walk or run around the Tan Track, Melbourne.

On the day, all VU participants have access to:

Can't be there but still want to help?

If you can’t make it to a Mother’s Day Classic event, walking isn't 'your thing' or you’d prefer to sleep-in this year,  you can register in absence for “I can't be there, but...” .

Fundraising tips

The Mother's Day Classic website has some great tips about increasing your fundraising amounts, some of which are highlighted here:

  • Tax deductible – all donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible, so remind everyone who sponsors you and let them know they will receive a receipt via email for tax time.
  • Birthday wishes – if you have a birthday coming up between now and MDC then you could ask for donations rather than gifts.
  • Send to everyone you know  be bold and ask everyone you know to support you - email your contact list and don't forget Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and any other social network you use.
  • Sell your skills – offer to wash friends cars, babysit their kids, do some DIY, help them with book keeping or gardening in return for a donation.

  • Daredevil – tell everyone that once you reach a certain goal you will do something daring or crazy. It should help them give you more to see if you do! Examples: Steve said he’d run in a pink tutu if he raised $1000; Meaka in Queensland even got a pink ribbon tattoo after raising more than $5,000.
