Students from laws schools around Australia will be participating in the 5th Annual Michael Kirby Contract Law Moot Court Competition. Hosted by Victoria University’s Law School, the competition is now the largest Moot Court Competition in Australia.
The grand final will be presided over by the Hon. Chief Justice Marilyn Warren AC, Honourable Nicola Roxon, Simon Marks QC and Michael D Wyles QC.
In 2014 there were a total of 26 teams from 17 Australian universities and a total of 94 student participants.
Visit the Kirby Moot website for more information.
Benefits of participating in the moot
The moot problem is designed to closely resemble a real-life dispute to ensure it's authentic and relevant to students’ learning. The moot judges are mainly practitioners.
Students are provided with feedback to help them reflect on their performance and develop the relevant advocacy skills and their overall delivery of arguments.
Those participating will have the opportunity to further develop fundamental lawyering skills including:
- problem-solving
- legal analysis and reasoning
- legal research
- factual investigation
- communication (oral and written)
- organisation
- management
- teamwork.
These skills will better equip all law graduates for further study and for their future careers.
