As part of the African Students Association conversation series, three evening events will be held throughout April.

African identity

8 April - 6pm

This interactive panel discussion aims to be an open forum for the African diaspora to talk about the identity challenges that they have faced through the migration process. This session also actively seeks contribution from second and third generation migrants from African backgrounds about how they define their identity as a person of African heritage; and the identity clash stemming from growing up in contemporary Australia.

Contemporary Africa

15 April - 6pm

‘How can/should we talk about the issues Africa faces in a post-Colonial world?’ - keynote presentation by Victoria University Lecturer, Dr Charles Mphande, followed by presentations by Victoria University students on aspects of African history.

African mental health and wellbeing

22 April - 6pm

Mental health issues can still be a taboo subject among the African community. This interactive workshop aims to start breaking down those barriers, begin the conversation about mental health issues and offer practical tips for how to talk to family and friends who may be suffering in silence.

This conversation is presented by AfroCare.
