Past community partnerships

Victoria University (VU) has successfully partnered with a number of community based organisations. We have also actively supported and participated in a variety of community based events.

Assisting unemployed people from culturally and linguistically diverse background

VU developed, in partnership with the Inner Western Migrant Resource Centre and Victoria University Admin and Legal Studies Department trained Office Administration. As a result 9 out of 16 people attained ongoing employment and 4 enrolled at Victoria University to continue their study

Young unemployed women from the Horn of Africa community

VU Community Studies Department developed a Survival Kit in partnership with the Horn of Africa Community Network and Melbourne City Mission.

The Survival Kit contains information for recently arrived young women accessing services. As a result 6 out of 12 continued further training, 2 obtained employment and 1 recently obtained traineeships in the Police Force. 

The Horn of African Live Night

This very important community event in Victoria is the affirmation of the community’s survival and deliverance from political, religious and ethnic persecution and discrimination. The Horn of African Live Night celebration is also an opportunity to affirm the joy of life in their new and peaceful home, Australia.

East Meets West Lunar New Year Festival 

Victoria University participated on the organising committee and also was one of the sponsors for East Meets West Lunar New Year festival. The festival held at Footscray in January 2009  saw more than 45,000 people attend the event.

Big West Festival

Big West is the leading community-based, contemporary arts and cultural festival in the western region of Melbourne.

A biennial event, Big West runs for ten days in November in every uneven year. It stages high quality, cutting edge and unique artistic works in the venues, cultural sites, suburban streets and industrial sprawl of Melbourne's west.
