VU will focus on 12 industry and community clusters in which VU has strong education and research capabilities and align them more effectively with future needs, with input from roundtables chaired by prominent industry and community leaders.

Commitment Two: Career - Learning in the Workplace and Community (led by PVC Teaching and Learning Professor Gregory Baxter)
VU will make at least 25% learning in the workplace and community a universal feature of VU courses.

Commitment Three: Choices - Strategies for Student Success (led by PVC Students Stephen Weller)
VU will provide students with the ability to customise their learning experience around course choice and learning support to best meet their current needs and future demands.

Commitment Four: Connected - Workforce Futures (led by PVC Vocational Education Dr. Anne T Jones)
VU will reposition learning for the professional, paraprofessional and skilled workforce, to provide continuing workforce development and work-based teaching practice that responsive, relevant and evidence-based.

Commitment Five: Community - Initiatives for the West (led by DVC Research and Region Professor Linda Rosenman)
VU will resource three initiatives for a better life in Melbourne's western suburbs and to share this knowledge with other communities in Australia or overseas that may face similar challenges.

About the Making VU Vision

Making VU is being developed and implemented over 2007 to 2012 but its full impact will extend beyond that period. By our centenary in 2016, we want to be known for:

  • responding to the changing nature of work & the workplace - here and in our major international markets
  • having strong community values
  • earning a name for ourselves as a university that blends vocational and professional, conceptual and creative pursuits
  • challenging conventional thinking as A New School of Thought
  • being a distinctive international university.

Making VU is the plan to get us there.
